What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

CrossWay Community Church is a non-denominational Acts 29 church. We believe doctrine is important and hold to the historical creeds of the Christian faith (Apostles' Creed, Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed), as well as Acts 29 Network's distinctive beliefs (https://www.acts29.com/about-us/distinctives/).
Our teaching and ministry is rooted in, and flows out of, biblical doctrine.

The Doctrine of  God

We believe there is one true God who exists eternally in three equal, Divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We believe God exists as one Divine essence in three distinct persons, with each being fully God. This one true and living God is worthy to receive all glory and adoration.

Doctrine of Scripture

We believe God has inspired the words of the sixty-six books of both the Old and New Testaments. These writings alone constitute the Word of God, which is utterly authoritative, inerrant, infallible and without contradiction in the original writings. God not only reveals Himself, but also gives us all things needed for life and salvation.

Doctine of Creation and Providence

We believe God created all things, whether visible or invisible, ex nihilo ("from nothing"). God created human beings, male and female, in His own image and for His own glory. Men and women, equally made in the image of God, enjoy equal access to God by faith in Jesus Christ.  God made all things and declared it was very good.  We believe God not only created the world, but also now upholds, sustains, governs, and providentially directs all things for His glory.

Doctrine of Humanity

We believe that all humanity is created in the image of God and possesses intrinsic dignity and worth. We believe the first man, Adam, sinned and forfeited his original blessedness (for both himself and all humanity). As a result, humanity is alienated from God, corrupted in every aspect of our being, and condemned to death apart from God's own gracious intervention. We believe humanity's sin has fractured all things, leaving the world in desperate need of salvation.

Doctrine of Salvation

We believe from all eternity God determined in His mercy and grace to save a people from every tribe, language, people, and nation. To this end, God foreknew and chose them, all to the praise of His glorious grace. In love, God commands and implores all people to repent and believe. We believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, who is the Savior and Redeemer of the world.

Doctrine of the Church

The universal, invisible church is made up of all people, both the living and the dead, who have become genuine followers of Jesus Christ. The visible church is a local congregation of believers who covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel, observe the sacraments instituted by Christ, and who exercise their Spiritual  gifts for God’s glory and the building up of the body of Christ.

The Sacraments

We believe baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two sacraments of the church to be observed until Christ’s return. We believe baptism is administered to a person who has repented and believed. In obedience to Christ's command and as a testimony to God, the church is instructed to baptize those who profess faith in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is an outward sign of an inner reality, demonstrating a person's union with Christ with all its benefits.
The Lord's Supper is also connected with a person's entrance into the church as a sign of ongoing covenant renewal. These two sacraments are God's pledge to us and our public submission to Christ.

Doctrine of New Creation

We believe in the future, physical, visible, personal and glorious return of Jesus Christ. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, of both the just (to eternal blessedness in the new heavens and new earth) and the unjust (to the place of eternal punishment).  We eagerly await that day when creation will be restored and God will make all things new. Then the whole earth will proclaim the glory of God.
